Laura Kraut is passionate about working with young horses. From Miss Independent to Cedric, Kraut has ridden to the pinnacle of the standings on the horses she has made. Cherry Knoll Farm currently has three jumpers with Kraut. CKF’s international veteran, Cedric, has been resting after the winter season and is currently preparing for the 2015 season plus two up-and-coming young horses, Andretti S and Constable.
The world’s best riders vied for the top of the standings during the 2014 Chantilly CSI5* in Chantilly, France. Kraut rode the 7-year-old chestnut Constable to second place finish during the 1.40m CSIYH1*. The talented young horse cleared the opening track with ease and laid down a second clear round when racing against the clock in the jump-off. Kraut guided Constable to a speedy time of 41.87 seconds to secure second place behind Gudrun Pattect and Seacoast Diamant Z. Constable also claimed the seventh place award during the 1.40m CSIYH1* held Friday. He completed the course in 71.18 seconds jumping another clean round.
“I have to stay patient with Constable,” Kraut said. “We have been moving him up slowly, and he is demonstrating a lot of potential. I am really pleased with his performance here in Europe. He is developing into a competitive jumper. Next year, we will challenge him more as an 8-year-old, but for right now he is doing so well, and I am happy with his progress.”
Kraut also showed Andretti S, owned by the Stars and Stripes syndicate, of which Cherry Knoll Farm is a shareholder. Kraut and Andretti S put in a solid effort in the 1.50m Chantilly CSI5* on Sunday. An unfortunate rail during the jump-off pushed the pair out of the ribbons, but Kraut was thrilled with the 9-year-old gelding.
“He has been coming along so well, and I am grateful to have the ride on him. We have been working slowly, working to build him up for the next level,” Kraut explained. “The goal is to prepare Andretti for new venues, and he is traveling alongside Cedric as the second horse. The hope is that he will take Cedric’s position next year.”
Kraut will continue her European tour with her seasoned and younger string. Kraut currently ranks 19th in the Longines Global Champions Tour (GCT) standings and has several more stops to make before returning to the United States.
